Eye Blinking Rate in Chronic Schizophrenia

Abstract

According to the previous studies that eye blinking rate was associated with the activity of several neurotransmitters. Especially dopaminergic and serotonergic system. the authors studied haloperidol plus cyproheptadine (5-HT2 antagonist) vs
haloperidol plus placebo in 40 chronic schizophrenics and analyzed the changes of eye blinking rate. Comparison haloperidol plus placebo group with haloperidol plus cyproheptadine group did not show significant clinical differences in eye
blinking
rate.
But showed different mode of change accompanying with time between two groups. But both groups showed significant differences in eye blinking rate before and after administration of haloperidol. But did not show any differences before and after
administration of cyproheptadine.
